The Japanese RPG as a distinct entity still exists, despite the rise and prominence of the "Western RPG" market. Some games, like Xenoblade Chronicles, might even move the genre forward while reinvigorating the joy we once had in playing the latest JRPG. This week on the podcast, Michael Abbot of The Brainy Gamer joins us to discuss "Why We JRPG". As always, thanks for listening, particularly to these longer episodes, and we encourage you to leave your own thoughts on the genre in the comments below.

ReplyDeleteIs it spoiler free?
ReplyDeleteYep, spoiler free! There is one tidbit where we ask Michael if he thinks something would spoil the game, but he says no. If you are extra cautious, you can skip ahead thirty seconds.
ReplyDeleteXenoblade is an excellent game, im glad that somone outside Nintendoo centric websites are actually talking about the game. As for scott's killer 7 playthorugh, there's this epic plot analysis on gamefaqs that you might get a kick out of:

also, count me as part of the minority that loves killer 7 :D
I'm looking forward to playing it, especially after hearing the momentum that's been building around it.
ReplyDeleteAlso, that Killer7 stuff looks amazing. Thanks for linking it! I'll definitely be referencing it to help untangle all those allusions and metaphors.
