I'm really enjoying your coverage of this game, it's recalling a lot of nostalgia for me from the third grade when I first discovered and fell in love with this game.

Glad you're enjoying it! We've been chatting about what we should do next. I've actually read a lot of Mother 3 stuff, especially Dan Bruno's write-ups. The music stuff seems really cool.
ReplyDeleteThanks for letting me know about Dan Bruno, I hadn't heard of him before, and his articles are really interesting! I especially liked the one about how the Ocarina tunes use their very limited number of notes to express references to many different kinds of music.
ReplyDeleteMother 3's music integration with the battle system is pretty cool, definitely. I also think you'd both be into the themes of the game; where Earthbound is about childhood and the power of friendship, Mother 3 is about family and the power of social movements. It also resolves some of the plot threads from the end of Earthbound.
Holy crap; there's a unified story? I always assumed those games were kind of self-contained plots and only thematically connected. Cool!
ReplyDeleteI have no idea about Mother 1, never did play it. But yeah, Mother 3 is a follow up to Earthbound, though it seems like at least a hundred years passed in the interim.
